YACHT CHARTER ITINERARY

Sail to Belize

Reef-bound waters, distant atolls, and a patient rhythm at sea.

About This Itinerary

5 Days in Belize

This five day yacht itinerary traces a composed route across Belize’s barrier reef and offshore atolls, balancing iconic sites with quieter anchorages chosen for still water and low traffic. From Turneffe, a protected marine reserve east of Belize’s coast, you move outward to Lighthouse Reef for the Great Blue Hole, then continue south toward the more remote character of Glover’s Reef and the calm shallows of South Water Caye. The experience is defined by pacing. Cruising legs are kept purposeful, leaving space for what matters most: long swims over pale sand, slow mornings with coffee on deck, and afternoons that drift between snorkeling, reading, and quiet exploration by tender. Belize rewards restraint. The reef’s beauty is not only dramatic, but precise, with subtle shifts in color, depth, and current that you begin to notice once you stop rushing from point to point. As a UNESCO World Heritage listed system, these waters also carry a rare ecological significance that adds depth to every hour spent on the reef. Curated by Atlantis Sail, each day is shaped around the right anchorage for the conditions, the best windows for visibility, and shore experiences that feel private rather than performative.

Day 1 - Belize City to Turneffe Atoll

25 NM

Board in Belize City and settle in as the yacht clears the coast for Turneffe Atoll, a vast network of flats, lagoons, and mangrove cayes protected as the Turneffe Atoll Marine Reserve. The afternoon is ideal for an easy first snorkel in shallow water, or a gentle tender ride through calm channels where the landscape feels intentionally quiet. Dinner is served on deck, simple and precise, with the reef settling into darkness around you.

Day 2 -Turneffe Atoll to Lighthouse Reef and the Great Blue Hole

35 NM

This morning’s crossing is dedicated to one of Belize’s most recognizable marine landmarks. The Great Blue Hole sits near the center of Lighthouse Reef, and its deep indigo circle becomes unmistakable as you approach. Those who dive can plan a carefully timed descent, while others may prefer to circle the reef by tender, snorkel nearby shallows, and return to the yacht for a long, quiet lunch at anchor.

Day 3 - Lighthouse Reef to Glover’s Reef

55 NM

A more open leg today carries you toward Glover’s Reef, the southernmost of Belize’s offshore atolls, prized for its remoteness and the sense of space it provides. Arrive in time for an afternoon on the water: snorkeling over patch reefs, paddleboarding in the lagoon, or a slow swim in clear, protected shallows. The evening is best kept simple, with candlelight on deck and the kind of silence that only arrives when the nearest shoreline feels far away.

Day 4 - Glover’s Reef to South Water Caye

45 NM

South Water Caye offers a softer, more sheltered mood, with shallow flats and luminous water that invite long, idle hours. This is a day for unstructured pleasure: a late swim, an easy snorkel over the reef edge, and an alfresco lunch that lingers. South Water Caye Marine Reserve forms part of the wider Belize Barrier Reef Reserve System, and the feeling here is distinctly protected, as if the sea itself has been set aside for quiet enjoyment.

Day 5 - South Water Caye to Belize City

40 NM

The final morning begins with a composed return toward Belize City. Breakfast is served on deck as the reef falls behind you, and the last hours are left intentionally open: a final swim if conditions allow, a slow rinse of salt from skin and hair, and time to pack without urgency.
