YACHT CHARTER ITINERARY

Sail to Canada

Calm passages, wooded shores, and coastal stillness.

About This Itinerary

7 Days in Canada

This seven day yacht itinerary traces a composed route from the lower Sunshine Coast into the deep cut of Jervis Inlet, then north into Desolation Sound, before returning south for a final quiet night near Secret Cove. The route is intentionally practical: distances stay moderate, conditions are generally protected, and the itinerary prioritizes time at anchor over constant movement. Princess Louisa Marine Park is a defining highlight, with an inlet that is narrow, deep, and largely enclosed, and an entrance that requires timing at Malibu Rapids. From there, the voyage continues toward Desolation Sound Marine Park, known for its many bays and coves and a shoreline that lends itself to calm days of swimming, kayaking, and easy shore walks. Curated by Atlantis Sail, each day is built around comfort and discretion: the right anchorage for the weather, a steady pace that protects your time, and shore experiences that feel quiet and unforced.

Day 1 - Vancouver to Gibsons

25 NM

Board in Vancouver and cruise west into Howe Sound, letting the city fall away without hurry. Arrive at Gibsons, a small coastal community on the Sunshine Coast, and settle into an easy first evening with a relaxed walk ashore or a quiet dinner on board. Gibsons Marina offers a straightforward base for arrival and services, keeping the first day simple and well paced.

Day 2 - Gibsons to Secret Cove and Smuggler Cove

20 NM

A short coastal run brings you to Secret Cove, a natural staging point for exploring the small anchorages along the Sechelt Peninsula. Spend the afternoon in Smuggler Cove, an all weather anchorage with a sheltered feel and an easy trail ashore when you want a change of scene. Return to the yacht for an early evening at anchor, with the kind of stillness that makes dinner feel unhurried.

Day 3 - Secret Cove to Pender Harbour

15 NM

Cruise north into Pender Harbour, a well protected cruising area with marinas, fuel, and a calm setting for a slower day. The afternoon is kept open by design: a gentle tender ride through the harbor, a swim when the water feels inviting, or simply time on deck with no plan beyond comfort.

Day 4 - Pender Harbour to Princess Louisa Inlet and Chatterbox Falls

35 NM

Today is about one focused passage into Jervis Inlet and onward to Princess Louisa Marine Park. The entrance at Malibu Rapids requires timing, and once inside the inlet the water often feels notably calmer, with steep valley walls and very little sense of open sea. By late afternoon, arrive at the head of the inlet for Chatterbox Falls, a classic stop for boaters in British Columbia, best enjoyed quietly from the cockpit or on a short walk ashore.

Day 5 - Princess Louisa Inlet to Desolation Sound Marine Park

55 NM

Depart early to take advantage of smooth morning conditions, retracing your route through Malibu Rapids and continuing north toward Desolation Sound. The afternoon is reserved for settling into your first anchorage within the marine park, where the geography naturally encourages a slower pace: short tender hops, easy swims, and quiet time in the cockpit as the day softens. Desolation Sound Marine Park is defined by its many bays and coves, which makes it well suited to private cruising.

Day 6 - Desolation Sound Marine Park

10 NM

Keep the yacht moving only as needed, shifting between a few nearby anchorages to match the day’s conditions. This is a day for simple pleasures: a longer swim, a kayak session along the shoreline, and a relaxed lunch served without interruption. The park’s warm season can bring notably comfortable water in protected bays, which suits a full day on and in the water without needing a schedule.

Day 7 - Desolation Sound to Pender Harbour

75 NM

Begin the return south with an early departure, keeping the passage steady and direct. Arrive back into Pender Harbour by late afternoon, reentering a sheltered cruising area that makes disembarkation logistics easy and calm. The final evening is best kept simple: an early dinner on board, and a quiet night at anchor.
