YACHT CHARTER ITINERARY

Sail to French Polynesia

Lagoon passages, ancestral shores, and deliberate ease.

About This Itinerary

6 Days in French Polynesia

This itinerary is built around the Society Islands charter pattern that works: base in Raiatea, then expand outward without burning days on long crossings. Raiatea gives you practical access to provisioning and protected lagoon cruising, and it also holds Taputapuatea, the marae complex recognized by UNESCO for its central role in Polynesian history and ceremonial life. Tahaa sits a short run away and is known for vanilla production, with visits to working plantations that explain the growing and curing process in direct terms. Huahine shifts the mood again with quieter bays and a less developed shoreline. Bora Bora finishes the week with lagoon cruising and a reef pass that concentrates marine life and current in a way few places can match.

Day 1 - Raiatea to Tahaa

8 NM

Depart Raiatea and cross into Taha a’s lagoon for an early arrival. Use the first afternoon for an easy swim and a tender loop along the motu edge, then schedule a vanilla plantation visit while the light is still good. Tahas is widely associated with vanilla, and local tours walk you through cultivation and curing rather than presenting it as a souvenir stop. Finish the day with a simple lagoon dinner plan on board and a quiet anchorage close to the reef line.

Day 2 - Tahaa to Huahine

25 NM

Make the run to Huahine in the morning, then settle into a bay that gives you good holding and easy tender access. Spend the afternoon on two tracks: water first, then shore. Start with snorkeling in a protected pocket along the reef edge, then take a short tender ride ashore for a slow drive through villages and coastal viewpoints. Huahine rewards small-scale exploring, a market stop, a roadside fruit stand, and a short walk rather than a long excursion list.

Day 3 - Huahine to Bora Bora

50 NM

Depart early for Bora Bora and plan your arrival for mid afternoon, leaving time to set up a comfortable lagoon position. After lunch, take the tender to Matira Beach for an easy shore break, then return for a late swim off the yacht in the shallower lagoon areas. Keep the evening simple with a short town run to Vaitape if you want supplies, then dinner on board with the island’s peaks in view.

Day 4 - Bora Bora Lagoon day

5 NM

Use today for lagoon mileage rather than island mileage. Cruise between a few anchor spots, then plan one focused water session at a reef pass. Teavanui Pass is a known dive and snorkel area, and local guidance matters here because current can be strong depending on tide and wind. In the afternoon, shift back to calmer water for paddleboarding and swimming, then end the day with a short tender ride to a quiet motu beach for sunset if conditions and access allow.

Day 5 - Bora Bora to Raiatea, Opoa and Taputapuatea

50 NM

Head back toward Raiatea and plan a late afternoon stop on the island’s southeast side at Opoa for Taputapuatea. UNESCO describes the property as a major political and ceremonial center within the Polynesian Triangle, with the marae complex at its heart. Visit with a guide or a short self paced walk if access conditions allow, then return to the yacht for dinner at anchor nearby.

Day 6 - Raiatea Lagoon

27 NM

Keep the final day inside Raiatea’s lagoon. Start with a morning swim stop, then a short tender run for last provisions or a coffee in Uturoa before returning to the yacht. Leave time for rinse down, packing, and a calm approach back to the marina for disembarkation.
